The Municipality of Rotterdam Continues its Commitment to Sustainability and joins the Challenge 2020

A dynamic and modern port city on the Mass river, Rotterdam is a metropolitan municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland, and the second largest in the Netherlands in terms of inhabitants. The municipality is part of the joint City of Rotterdam and the Rotterdam-Hague Metropolitan Area. As urban areas often burden the environment through excessive consumption of fossil fuel energy and pollution, rethinking and redesigning urban spaces is essential in fighting the climate crisis.

Leading the Way

Globally, the Netherlands is one of the leading voices in tackling environmental issues. The Municipality of Rotterdam is no exception to this and the region is actively taking steps to address these ongoing and impending challenges. From offering subsidies to citizens wanting to build green roofs and encouraging citizens to invest in electric cars, to taking advantage of the wind and solar power, their hands-on approach to positively impact the environment fits right in with the ambition of the Challenge.

Sustainable Living

Additionally, browsing through their website (Dutch only), one can find tips, tricks, and teachings about how to live more sustainably. For example, they offer guidance on how to separate waste and avoid litter, what not to throw in the sewer, how our actions can lead to cleaner air, and more. The municipality of Rotterdam is constantly setting an example and we are looking forward to welcoming their young professionals to the 11th edition of the Challenge.
